We are calling this the Carly Lemon Cup! In Carly’s words, age 8, “After my baby sister was born last year with hearing loss, my other sister also was diagnosed a few months later. Now they both wear hearing aids! I learned hearing aids are super expensive and not all kids are able to have them. Kids who can’t hear need to be able to hear if they want to!!! I want to help them hear better. I want every child to be able to own a pair of hearing aids! She originally came up with the idea to do a lemon aid stand, since that required a permit Carly came up with a different plan. To use her love of sewing to design stuffed lemons to sell and help raise funds and raise awareness on behalf of her sisters and other kids like them.”

No Limits To What You Can Learn!
NO EXPERIENCE? NO PROBLEM! In the workshops below, we offer a private hands-on glassblowing experience. You will work with your instructor, who will help you create your very own work of art. You choose your workshop, glass colors, and then we will guide you through the step by step process of bringing your piece to life.
- These workshops are available year round
- Workshops are by reservation ONLY
- Workshops must be paid at the time of reservation and are NON-REFUNDABLE
- Workshops may last anywhere from 20-45 minutes
- You must arrive 10 minutes prior to the start of your workshop
- Workshops are for ages 7-100+
- One guest per project
- All workshops require a 24 hour cooling cycle and may be picked up 48 hrs after your workshop or may be shipped directly to you at a flat rate of $25
- Pieces WILL NOT be held past 14 days. Abandoned pieces will become property of Howe Glassworks
- No loose fitting clothing
- Closed-toed shoes required

Programs
You Design it, We Create it!
This educational program is designed to give the children in school, scout, and camp groups the opportunity to see their design brought to life in glass. Our glassblower will randomly choose a picture submitted by your group and that design will be created by our talented gaffer. The person whose design was chosen will have the piece directly shipped to their home. All other children in your group will receive a complimentary Howe Glassworks medallion.
- Fee for “You Design It, We Create It” Program is $200
- Drawings should be submitted 7 days prior to demonstration date
- Fee includes: educational demonstration with narration, glass creation, and glass medallions
- This program is designed for school-aged children only and limited to school, scout, and camp groups
- Payment in full due 7 days prior to demonstration date
Cooling Process
IMPORTANT READ, DRAGONS!
(especially as we move into season)
What exactly goes into those great annealer reveals? It’s way more than you think. You just waved good-bye to your flaming hot creation as Dorian quickly whisked it away to the 925°F annealer. We tell everyone that pieces can be picked up the next day after 12p. Now, we wait.
It is now the next morning… you are VERY excited to pick up your piece. We are just as excited. Howe Caverns opens at 10a and we sometimes are greeted by a disappointed Dragon, staring at us with shock and disappointment saying, “but you “open” at 10a, why isn’t my piece ready?”
Dragons, we are going to explain the lengthy morning process that we cannot (and will not) rush. PLEASE read the captions of the following pictures. These are the last touches that ultimately give us your finished masterpieces and your beloved annealer reveal.

Ashes to Art
This program offers the opportunity to memorialize your loved one or beloved pet in a handcrafted glass creation that you can keep forever. This program is also available even if you are not able to visit the studio in person. Ship us the ashes of your dearly departed, your piece will be made specifically for you with love and respect by infusing the ashes into glass and creating a lasting beautiful memory.
- Ashes to Art creation fee is $200
- Payment due in full at the time of order. NO REFUNDS. NO RETURNS
- Fee includes: glass, color (up to 3), and assisting the artist with your creation (optional)
- Shape options for Ashes to Art are: heart or orb
- Free engraving with name, date, and/or quote is available upon request
- Shipping on any order is $30

It’s Amazing To Just Watch!
DORIAN ORDYNE – Director/Artist
Dorian discovered her passion for creativity at a very young age realizing that artistic expression brought her immense amounts of joy. She spent most of her childhood exploring many different mediums such as: dancing, painting, drawing, and pottery. Her passion for glass began in her hometown of New Orleans where she saw glassblowing for the very first time at the New Orleans Glassmaking and Printing Company. In 2014, Dorian decided to pursue a career in glassblowing. Under the tutelage of several Master Gaffers, Dorian was able to hone her own skills and continue growing as an artist. Now, she has finally found a place she is proud to call home; with us, right here in Upstate New York.
Dorian is our Resident Artist, Master Dragon, and Head Director of Howe Glassworks Studio at Howe Caverns in Howes Cave, NY. Dorian uses all of her training and knowledge to bring the amazing art of glassblowing to the Capital District and share her love of the art with our guests.
Anissa White – July – August Guest Artist
Anissa White found her passion for glassblowing during her undergraduate studies at the Hartford Art School, where she received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree. After taking her first glassblowing class, Anissa fell in love with a medium that was both challenging and exciting to work with. Several years of hot glass fabrication classes allowed Anissa to develop a style of work that ranges from intricate flora imagery to functional work including: vases, cups, and various vessel forms. She brings a playfulness to her forms through exploring color application techniques. After graduating from Hartford Art School, she spent a year down in South Florida continuing to study both glass and ceramics; refining her own skills as well as teaching classes in both mediums. Teaching brought Anissa off the bench and onto the floor of the studio where she discovered that instructing students on techniques and forms brought her as much joy as creating her own art work. Anissa is currently working under glass artist, Christopher Gray, in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She is excited to be able to share her passion for the art of glassblowing with the guests of Howe Glassworks as she continues to grow as an artist.
